In a significant stride towards promoting fair recruitment practices, Phase III of the Integrated Programme on Fair Recruitment (FAIR), a global initiative of the International Labour Organization (ILO), held its inaugural Project Advisory Board (PAB) Meeting on 6 December 2023 in Accra, Ghana. Chaired by the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, the meeting saw the validation of the PAB's Terms of Reference and the approval of the project's comprehensive workplan. 

The FAIR III programme is hosted by the ILO with funding from the Swiss Development Cooperation and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The Ghana component of the programme is focused on the migration corridor from Ghana to the Arab States. This strategic emphasis aims to address the unique challenges and dynamics associated with this corridor, ensuring a more targeted and effective approach to fair recruitment practices. 

The PAB comprises members from the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, serving as the Chair, the Trade Union Congress (Ghana), Ghana Employers’ Association, Labour Department, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ghana Statistical Service, and The International Migration Policy Recruitment & Advisory Centre (IMPRAC). 

During the meeting, participants engaged in insightful discussions surrounding the communique from the First African Labour Migration Conference, which took place on 20 October 2023, in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. This exchange of ideas and perspectives further enriched the strategies and approaches that will be implemented throughout the FAIR III project. 

The FAIR III project not only seeks to foster fair recruitment practices but also emphasizes the importance of collaboration between national institutions, social partners, businesses, and civil society organizations. By establishing a framework for implementing, monitoring, and regulating the recruitment of migrant workers, FAIR III aims to create a fair and equitable landscape for both employers and workers involved in migration.
