Digital technology platforms are proliferating, particularly as more countries move processes online in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These platforms, if well-designed and implemented, have the potential to play a key role in supporting fair and ethical recruitment, particularly in promoting institutional transparency, efficiency, reduced cost of recruitment, and government oversight.
Under the auspices of the United Nations Network on Migration, this webinar will discuss opportunities for digital technology platforms to support the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) in the lead-up to the first International Migration Review Forum in 2022. Discussions will include opportunities for digital technology platforms to support GCM objectives including advocating for fair and ethical recruitment and safeguarding conditions that ensure decent work for all (GCM Objective #6) as well as introducing technology to simplify and strengthen migration procedures to avoid unnecessary delays and expenses (part of GCM Objective #12).
Specifically, the webinar will explore innovative state-facilitated digital technology platforms that assist the recruitment, placement, and/or job matching for migrant workers, and recommendations from a joint report by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and International Labour Organization (ILO) titled “Promoting fair and ethical recruitment in a digital world”. The four different platforms to be presented will be the Employment Permit System of the Republic of Korea, MUSANED from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, e-Migrate from the Republic of India and the European Job Mobility Portal.
